"Begin with the end in mind."
The Murphy Scholarship is Leesville Road High School's first endowed scholarship. Founded in 2011 in memory of Leesville's first principal, Richard J. Murphy, it seeks to inspire incoming students by recognizing the best of our graduating senior class.
Over $50,000 has been raised and funds are held and administered by the NC Community Foundation. The major fundraiser for the scholarship is the Leesville Community Turkey Trot. |
Who is selected?Murphy Scholars demonstrate visionary leadership, service to the school community, and a commitment to lifelong learning. They are well-rounded and have fully invested in academics and co-curricular excellence in their tenure at Leesville Road High School. People in the school community can articulate how their contributions strengthened the institution and could inspire future graduating classes to strive for excellence.
What do they receive?Until the scholarship is fully endowed, awards can fluctuate with market returns. Most years two scholars are recognized and receive $2000. It is our goal to raise $250,000 and honor four seniors with $5000 awards.
